Bull; Gretzky should have to bend the knee to a society gone mad, at least woke for sure. Without Wayne no chance of being in the NHL Edmonton. No chance the league grows to over 30 teams providing employment for hundreds of Canadians. Ill-advised to accept the invitation? A true friend stands by a friend in all circumstances, not just those politically correct or popular.

Maybe he shouldn't have accepted, and avoided any conflict, but it "could" have been an opportunity to confirm his Canadianess. But who made him enter from the US bench? (we'll ignore the friendly thumbs up). Who decided he'd wear a blue suit and nothing Canadian when they KNEW the US Captain would be in a jersey? I think Wayne's silence makes it worse. I think he could make a sincere statement:
- I love Canada, now and forever.
- Yes, I get a long with The Donald and agree with him on 'some' policies, but he and I agree to disagree on this 51st state thing.
Saying nothing suggests he supports this concept, or doesn't have an opinion (just as bad)

A couple of points in defence of Gretzky. He entered by the US bench because that's where he was told to go. That's common in these situations. He was in the Canadian dressing room just before that to give the opening lineup and encourage the players, so he hadn't seen the US players yet and he knows many of them. I'm ok with that. Regardless, he shouldn't have made that appearance at that time.
